"And we, too, must become aware of that, we have got to feel it until we become desperate. We must ask ourselves how we can succeed if we do not have this authority, this commission, this might and strength and power. We must become utterly and absolutely convinced of our need. We must cease to have so much confidence in ourselves, and in all our methods and organisations, and in all our slickness. We have got to realise that we must be filled with God’s Spirit. And we must be equally certain that God can fill us with his Spirit. We have got to realise that however great ’this kind’ is, the power of God is infinitely greater, that what we need is not more knowledge, more understanding, more apologetics, more reconciliation of philosophy and science and religion, and all modern techniques - no, we need a power that can enter into the souls of men and break them and smash them and humble them and then make them anew."

- Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones

Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones, writing in the mid 20th Century, noted that the spectre of an approaching post-Christianity would not be answered with better programs, techniques and methods. Instead, believers must realise that this challenge can only be met with the power of God. Jones referred to the verse, Mark 9:29, suggesting the secularism that is approaching would only come out with prayer & fasting. Our task is not to remove secularism and post-Christianity from our society, but from ourselves. So this lent, we invite you to fast and pray for God to move again.

“Fasting can bring breakthroughs in the spiritual realm that will never happen in any other way”

- Richard Foster

Slaying the idols of the land through fasting.

Prayerfully consider what God is asking you to put down for the period of Lent.

There are many aspects of our lives that capture and dictate our attentions. These might be areas God is asking you to consider fasting: Food (simplicity of diet), Alcohol, TV, Social Media, News, Smart Phones, Consumerism (buy less), Busyness (rest), Self-image (less time spent on fashion and appearance), People (edifying relationships)

“Every mighty move of the Spirit of God has had its source in the prayer chamber.”

- E.M. Bounds

To contend in prayer for God to move again.

To fill the period of lent with 24/7 prayer, alongside other churches across the world.

Committing to times of contending prayer over the 40 days of Lent. Our shared calendar allows you to identify times you will pray and reflects the commitments of others praying at all times around the world.

Some have felt called to engage with fasting and prayer in a similar way to Samuel, Samson and John the Baptist. For more information about what this looks like, read about the New Nazirite’s Vow here.
